New 35-hour-week law approved
Article Abstract:
A new French law viz. loi Fillon relating to work duration, reconciliation with the SMIC wage rates and decrease in the employer's contribution towards social security passed by the French government headed by Prime Minister Jean- Pierre Raffarin has been described. The important features of this law have been discussed. Different views of French trade union bodies about this new law have been provided.

Reform of the 35-hour week
Article Abstract:
The implications of the amendments to the working hour regulations in France as disclosed by the French prime minister in December 2004 are discussed. The reforms provide for flexibility to people who wish to work for longer than 35-hours.
