Peripheral location equals localized labour? Multinationals and the internationalization of training and development in Ireland
Article Abstract:
The continuing growth of multinational companies (MNCs) and the increase in international trade has lead to employees being trained to work in an international environment. A study of MNCs in Ireland found that 41 businesses undertook to send their employees to other parts of the company for periods of over one year but these transfers were not very frequent. Some 63 Irish subsidiary companies sent their employees to another sections of the company to receive training. The 1995 study involved 140 subsidiaries of MNCs in Ireland.

Article Abstract:
Questions are raised about the view that the industrial relations and human resource management procedures of multinational firms active in Ireland are very similar to those of domestic firms. It is argued that this view fails to take account of evidence about the predominance of country-of-origin effects in relation to host-country effects.
