MEPs vote to dilute chemical safety law

The European Parliament has voted to back the EU's proposed chemical safety regulations but has made amendments that would exempt many chemicals from mandatory testing. The vote on November 17, 2005 marks the stage in the progress of a law, which is fought over by industry lobbyists and environmental campaigners for more than two years.

The provision of the safety officer and occupational physician applicable to all the construction sites is enforced by European Union (EU) safety legislation, but a delay in transposing EU safety and construction laws is reported.
