Score A+ employees with pre-employment testing
Article Abstract:
Pre-employment tests are effective tools for predicting the work behaviors, preferences and chances of success of job candidates. There are recruitment professionals who believe that many unqualified applicants would successfully pass through the screening process based on what they put in their resumes if tests are not used to determine the veracity of the information they provide. It would be easy for applicants to lie about their skills, but skills testing would reveal the truth about their capabilities. Aside from skills tests, other tests that HR professionals can use to test the suitability of the candidates to the culture and mission of the organization are personality tests and behavioral tests. With pre-employment testing, HR departments can contribute to their companies' bottom line by improving the organization's retention rate, its productivity and its ability to recruit the most qualified applicants.

Closing time: master the art
Article Abstract:
Recruiting employees is very similar to selling. HR professionals have to sell their companies to the best job applicants so that the latter will decide to accept the job offer rather than go to other companies. Recruitment officers who let talented candidates get away not only lose potential company assets, they also waste the time, money and effort they had spent in attracting those candidates in the first place. There are several sales techniques that can be applied to recruitment to ensure that good job applicants do not slip away. One is for HR professionals to take advantage of the job interview to promote the company. Another is to get the candidates to talk about their concerns and misgivings about the company and to dispel these immediately. A third useful selling technique is to find out where the company stands with the candidates before they part with their interviewers.

Pop quiz: how do you recruit the best college grads?
Article Abstract:
There are several measures that companies can take to improve their ability to recruit the best college graduates. One technique is for them to establish a strong presence on campuses. Companies with an easily identifiable name are more likely to attract job applicants than those that are anonymous. Another is to establish rapport with colleges and universities. Firms that visit campuses for no other reason than to get their best and brightest students are likely to make colleges feel used and to become less willing to offer their assistance the next time the same companies come around to recruit more students. A third technique is to use technology because many college students are comfortable in cyberspace. Many prefer to find employment through their PCs because they do not have to get an appointment, dress up or respond to any questions.
