The changing nature of the employment contract
Article Abstract:
UK employment contracts and corporate cultures have undergone a radical transformation, as employers have replaced guarantees of permanent employment with non-standard contracts, temporary and part-time work, flexible hours, and telecommuting. Contractual relationships in the public sector, and local governments in particular, have changed the most, as working arrangements have been decentralized. Homeworking, annual hours, and personal, fixed-term, and zero hours contracts have become commonplace. Local contracts involving university lecturers or National Health Service employees are also discussed.
