The impact of divorce on work
Article Abstract:
A recent joint US-UK study of how divorce impacts the workplace interviewed 500 UK and US managers who had separated or divorced since 1980. Findings can be broken down into two categories: effects on long-term career development and effects on daily work activities. Research results suggest that divorce had both a positive and a negative impact on the daily work environment. Seventy percent of women surveyed indicated they became more involved in their work as a way to gain balance in their life, but divorce also increased stress levels for both men and women and were reflected in absenteeism rates and achievement rates. Research results also indicate that divorce increased women's work achievement, while results for men were mixed. Additionally, results suggest that after divorce, work relationships may become more important to individuals as a source of support and friendship.

The evolving education programme for personnel professionals
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Personnel Management's (IPM) professional management education scheme has recently undergone a number of changes so that it now focuses on specialization, competence, continuing professional development, institutional autonomy and IPM control. Students who will be participating in IPM's newly redesigned educational programs should be able to answer organization-specific questions about employee development relations and resourcing, and exhibit competence in skills development and assessment. Students should also be involved in career-related continuing education. Additionally, students are also expected to achieve situational, strategic, and integrative thinking in their IPM exam answers.
