The redundancy scheme 21 years on
Article Abstract:
As the 21 year old Redundancy Payments Act of Great Britain moves toward its major restructuring this fall, a review of a number of court cases shows how the act has changed over time. Employees who resign on favorable terms are not considered to be dismissed, according to one legal case, while another determined that companies are reimbursed for making the precise payments required by law (no negotiation allowed). Even as the law is about to change, its original form was still open to much interpretation.

Rights and wrongs in contracts of employment
Article Abstract:
The laws governing changes in employment contracts are the same laws governing all types of contracts. An employer cannot make a change in an employee's contract without the employee's unequivocal, unconditional approval. Employees can indicate their acceptance through a written or oral agreement, or they can indicate their approval implicitly through their actions. Employees have a right to terminate a contract or claim unfair dismissal, but they must act quickly to retain that right.
