Training: the key to fire safety
Article Abstract:
The Association of British Insurers reports that in 1991 the total cost of claims for fire loss exceeded 1,000 million pounds sterling, commercial fire losses increasing by a third. It identifies staff training as one particular area where things could be improved to prevent situations leading to major fires. The Fire Protection Act 1971 dictates where fire certificates are needed for premises and these certificates are only issued after a visit and inspection by a fire prevention officer.
