Union legislative records during President Reagan's first term
Article Abstract:
It has been assumed that organized labor's political record has declined markedly since President Reagan was elected in 1980. This study shows this contention to be only partly true. While organized labor's political influence has declined somewhat, particularly in the executive branch, there is considerable variation in the legislative agendas, objectives and successes across a sample of eight major unions studied. This suggests that union legislative activity should be studied on a union-by-union basis. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)

Teachers' collective bargaining outcomes and tradeoffs
Article Abstract:
This study uses data from Illinois and Iowa public school districts to examine the factors that influence the wage and non-wage bargaining outcomes negotiated by teachers' unions. Tradeoffs between wage and non-wage outcomes and among non-wage contract provisions are also examined. The results provide some evidence that tradeoffs exist between wage and nonwage outcomes. The findings also reveal differences in outcome and tradeoff patterns across the states for issues unrelated to union security. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)
