Feminist communication scholarship and "the woman question" in the academy
Article Abstract:
Feminist scholarship challenges the disciplinarity of masscommunication. Feminist media scholars have no use for a disciplinary status, but they do need the authority that comes with it. 'The woman question' is analyzed to better understand the status of feminist scholarly practice in media in the disciplinary-oriented university. This concept examines the specific standing of the female population in terms of relations of production. It positions the oppression of women within the interests of capital.

Introduction: for the study of communication and against the discipline of communication
Article Abstract:
The sophisticated scholarship that is involved in mass communication research is often ignored by the larger academic community. The field gets little respect from other other scholars mainly because of its lack of disciplinary status. However, this apparent flaw has positive consequences. It enriches mass communication research by permitting broad-based investigation of contemporary life and providing numerous opportunities to explore methodological and epistemological uncertainty.

Resisting disciplines: repositioning media studies in the university
Article Abstract:
The concept of mass communication as a discipline is examined. It is proposed that any attempt to fashion mass communication as a discipline in thestyle of humanities and social sciences will only result in communications research that repeats the problems commonly encountered by the modern university. A better alternative is to conceptualize mass communication as a post-discipline. One of the advantages of post-disciplinarity is its focus on the process of question formation.
