A lawyer's lawman; San Francisco sheriff Michael Hennessey is as unconventional as the city and county he serves
Article Abstract:
Michael Hennessey is as sheriff for the city and county of San Francisco director of a jail system known for being especially progressive and liberal and his jails' liberal programs have put him at odds with peers in other jurisdictions. Hennessey, also a graduate of law school, was overwhelmingly elected to his current job. Although some in the San Francisco legal community claim he would eventually make a fine judge, Hennessey is not interested in leaving his current job before retirement.

US District Judge Roderick R. McKelvie took CellPro and its attorneys to task for their conduct during biotech industry litigation involving John Hopkins University. John Hopkins won the case, which centered on licensing rights to a blood cell separation technique used in cancer treatment. CellPro responded by petitioning HHS to use the Bayh-Dole Act to force transfer of the technology.
