A school that's owned by a firm
Article Abstract:
The Bakersfield, CA, law firm Borton, Petrini and Conron owns the California Pacific School of Law. The firm assumed ownership after the founding attorneys, who started the school because the nearest law schools were several hours away, became ill. As of early 1993, the school has graduated 20 and its student body is composed of 50% women and 20% minorities. The school's JD program is a four year, part-time one and faculty members are recruited yearly from the town's practicing attorneys.

Family sues filmmakers over portrayal of lawyer; defendants deny that 'Philadelphia' is really 'The Geoffrey Bowers Story.'
Article Abstract:
A federal jury is trying to decide to what extent the movie 'Philadelphia' portrays the true-life story of the attorney Geoffrey Bowers, who accused his former employer, Baker and McKenzie, of discrimination against AIDS sufferers after he was fired from the firm. The case was settled confidentially eight years after the attorney's death. New York State's Division of Human Rights agreed that the attorney was fired because of AIDS and awarded his estate half a million dollars.

At law firms, they're tired of O.J. but can't turn it off: too busy, too bored, too worried they'll miss out on something, they tune in
Article Abstract:
Many attorneys and law office support staff are following the O.J. Simpson murder trial even though they deny any interest. Some are using portable televisions while others visit local restaurants to keep updated. The trial fascinates those involved with the law because they cannot help critiquing the performance. California attorneys are often asked for inside information on the trial and yet believe it has not really affected their lives.
