Administering international arbitration proceedings; explanation of how the AAA's program works
Article Abstract:
The American Arbitration Ass'n revised its International Arbitration Rules and established its International Center for Dispute Resolution to streamline the arbitration process. Whether due to an awareness of potential cost control or to cultural preferences, the center has had an increased use of mediation and pre-dispute mediation clauses. The revised rules encourage a pro-active approach to arbitration, as long as its parties also have due process.

The role of the international arbitrator
Article Abstract:
International arbitrators possess a high degree of autonomy in resolving international disputes. Arbitration often has no judicial interference. The arbitrator draws power from the arbitration agreement and from the International Arbitration Rules. The arbitrator can grant any remedy within the scope of the agreement. The arbitrator must maintain impartiality and disclose any information relevant to impartiality.
