American corporations and the economic future of South Africa
Article Abstract:
American corporations and the US government both have important roles to play in South Africa's development, but neither has made effective use of the opportunities and needs of that country. Black South Africans hold the US in high esteem, in part because of the support it gave them in their struggle against apartheid through direct pressure and application of the Sullivan Principles. Most aid since the emergence of true democracy, however, has been in the form of promises. US companies should develop a combined public and private presence.

New challenges for corporate responsibility
Article Abstract:
The US economy of the 1990s is growing but the income gap between the rich and poor is growing. Rising corporate profits and very high executive salaries go along with rising layoffs, export of jobs, and most peoples' standard of living either stagnant or declining. It is as if the corporate body treats the rest of society as raw materials to be exploited for its benefit. Those who care about socially responsible corporate models must find new proactive models which benefit everybody and still give workers a chance to excel.
