An educators' group considers taking over faculty pay listings
Article Abstract:
The Assn of American Law Schools may take over the American Bar Assn's former collection and distribution of faculty salary information. However, the MA School of Law, which is suing the ABA and the AALS over antitrust claims, says such a move would invite further antitrust suits. The Justice Dept settled a suit with the ABA in June 1995, agreeing in part that the ABA would cease the activity. The AALS supports its position with a Justice Dept statement defending the use of such information in the medical industry.

Deans, profs are held immune from fitness-report lawsuits
Article Abstract:
An Illinois appellate court has ruled in Zielinski v. Schmalbeck that deans and professors cannot be sued by law students for negative opinions about their character and fitness given to boards of bar examiners. Law school officials were held to be immune from liability under Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act of 1871. A similar case concerning a graduate of Emory University School of Law is pending.

Law profs: poor no more, pay is up
Article Abstract:
Law schools have for the last five years been increasing law professors' salaries. The schools were concerned about their ability to attract top-quality people if the difference between academia and the private sector was too great. Competition for teaching positions has also increased due to the dearth of law firm positions, and some even find teaching more attractive due to the reduced stress level.
