Anti-porn legal theorists gather in Chicago
Article Abstract:
A conference at the University of Chicago in Mar 1993 debated how pornography and hate speech should be defined and treated under law. At least 600 lawyers, activists and feminist legal scholars attended. The anti-pornography ordinance written in the early 1980s by Professor Catherine A. MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin was again cited as a way to end pornography's sex discrimination against women. The ordinance has yet to be adopted anywhere and some at the conference favored other remedies such as sexual tort and contract actions.

A discovery: there may be gold in E-mail; computer-savvy lawyers are looking closely at computer files
Article Abstract:
Lawyers are appreciating the value of computer files as evidence and expanding discovery requests to include electronic media. Clients are also asking attorneys' advice about the right retention schedules for electronic files and when it is appropriate to delete them. The value of E-mail as evidence lies partly in the impromptu nature of communications. Presenting cases involving electronic evidence will usually require expert witnesses who can testify that the electronic evidence has not been damaged.

Gang law will meet court test
Article Abstract:
Critics of a Chicago anti-loitering ordinance aimed at decreasing gang violence claim it violates the constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms of association, speech and movement and that it is too vague. They also fear that innocent African Americans and Hispanics will be harassed by police suspecting them of gang membership. Proponents counter that the ordinance requires more than simple loitering before arrest can occur and that people will not be arrested unless they ignore orders to disperse.
