Antitrust shift eyed with doubt
Article Abstract:
The Justice Department's announcement of a policy change allowing for antitrust cases to be filed against Japanese cartels for restricting American exports will probably not lead to any litigation, say many experts. The rules change is seen as politically driven by election-year pressures and frustration in the US business community. While some antitrust lawyers feel that the emergence of the global economy makes such measures necessary, others feel that bringing cases against Japanese corporations over actions they undertake in Japan is far too cumbersome a process to be useful.

Judge is nearing decision on bailout for Mutual Benefit
Article Abstract:
A New Jersey Superior Court heard closing arguments on Jun 2, 1993, on state plans to bail out the failed Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. The New Jersey Insurance Commissioner's rehabilitation plan would keep the banks from recouping any of the millions of dollars in obligations and loan guarantees they earned with the insurance company and repay policyholders at an annual rate of interest of 5%. The banks consider the proposed exclusion of their claims unconstitutional.
