Biker bar fights bias; these 'attorneys who ride' want respect for their motorcyclist clients
Article Abstract:
Groups to represent the interests of motorcyclists on such concerns as mandatory helmets and discrimination have sprung up across the country. Prominent among the members are lawyer-motorcyclists. Aid to Injured Motorcyclists, the National Coalition of Motorcyclists and state groups under the umbrella name of ABATE are the key examples. One of the main targets of these groups is the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, which starting in Oct 1993 would punish states without mandatory helmet statutes.

Labor, health top list; but forecasters cast wary eye at volatile legal market
Article Abstract:
The National Law Journal survey of the legal job market in mid-1993 reveals that employment, health care and insurance are the specialties with the most need for additional personnel. The demand for labor specialists has arisen because of the new laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, governing the workplace and also because of increased sensitivity to sex discrimination at work. The demand for health care and insurance lawyers comes from pending health care reforms by the Clinton Administration.

Ancillary businesses prospering quietly; the most successful subsidiaries are those that play on their firms' strengths, experts say
Article Abstract:
Ancillary businesses are a continuing trend in the legal field, especially for large law firms. Approximately 12% of the National Law Journal's 250 largest law firms list is involved in ancillary businesses. Ethical concerns raised about this trend include conflicts of interest, confidentiality and lack of clarity about the subsidiary's relationship with the parent firm.
