Commentary: Enlargement and the wider Europe
Article Abstract:
Eastward enlargement of the EU has begun with preparations for the accession of 10 central and eastern European countries (CEECs). It is virtually assured that Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary will become members of the EU, and the restructuring of their economies are underway. This raises the question of how to deal with the EU's new borders with Ukraine and Belarus. The development of closer links, especially economic links, is desirable.
