Creating your own Web page
Article Abstract:
Blue Sky Software's $499 Web Office Web authoring suite suits both inexperienced and experienced users, allowing them to create Web pages as well as establish and manage intranet or Internet sites. The most important component is the Microsoft Internet Assistant that lets users develop Web documents even if the users have little knowledge of HTML. HTML formatting is taken care of through toolbars, dialog boxes and the application of styles. The Web Doctor tools are very useful, recording problems and gathering statistics on the Web site. The Web Doctor can identify pages with broken links, external links and missing images. A handy download report indicates the time it would take users to download a specific Web page with a 14.4-Kbps or 28.8-Kbps modem, or a T1 or ISDN line. By identifying pages with bottlenecks, users can reduce long download times. Graphics utilities let users edit graphics or add clip art.

Net-ready databases
Article Abstract:
askSam Systems' $149 askSam Web Publisher lets businesses quickly and easily make askSam databases available to end users over an Internet or intranet. End users employ a browser to query the askSam databases. askSam Web Publisher accepts the queries and returns the requested information, translating it into HTML before sending it on the the browser. Users are shielded from all HTML and CGI scripting. askSam Web Publisher resides in the CGI directory on a Web server and is launched whenever requests from browsers are received. Web Publisher lets users perform Boolean, numeric, proximity, date, fuzzy, wild-card and full-text searches on the databases, using an integrated search form. Users may also set up their own forms, both to query the databases and to store information in a database. By capturing information with an askSam form, users create an easy-to-read record.
