Deans disagree on the usefulness of magazine's annual rankings
Article Abstract:
The latest survey and ranking of law schools by US News and World Report has drawn the usual criticisms from law school deans. While admitting the clout derived from being the only such survey, school heads say it is weighted toward private schools and those in big cities. Factors over which a school has little control, such as the response rate of graduates, can weigh heavily. Only two schools entered the top 25 list in 1996, and none in the top six changed. The report's editor says that while imperfect, it is useful.

Annual dispute on national rank includes argument over ad page
Article Abstract:
The Law Schools Admissions Council (LSAC) is accusing 'US News & World Report' of censorship over a $26,500 ad that the LSAC ran in the issue where law schools were ranked nationally. The original ad said 'There's no way the US News ranking can capture the qualities that make each law school unique,' while the ad as run read 'The US News ranking cannot cannot capture all the qualities that make each law school unique.' The US News editor in question said it was not censorship, but a matter of accuracy.

ABA criticizes rankings data, floats own recommendations
Article Abstract:
Partially inaccurate magazine surveys and rankings have pushed the ABA to propose its own annual compilation of law school information. The ABA Special Committee on Law School Information made the initial recommendation in Feb, 1992. If the House of Delegates and member schools agree to the proposal, publication will commence in the summer of 1993.
