Driven to defection; fed up with insurers' auditors, defense lawyers go to work for plaintiffs
Article Abstract:
A trend among experienced insurance defense lawyers, tired of such insurance company practice as overly detail-oriented auditing of their legal bills, is to switch sides and work for plaintiffs or to sue for bad faith or fraud those companies which will not pay their bills. Insurance companies looked to cost-cutting, including cutting legal bills, as the yield of their investments grew less by the early 1990s and the insurance market became more crowded. Lawyers worry that the audits are threatening attorney-client confidentiality.
