Forum selection; supplemental jurisdiction
Article Abstract:
The extent of availability of supplemental jurisdiction has become more important in litigation as the forum selection battle has assumed greater importance. Federal courts must look to congressional intent in deciding which cases to hear, and Congress enacted USC 1367 to permit pendent party jurisidiction. Rulings since this USC section dealing with the issue of whether statutory supplemental jurisdiction entirely negates judge-made exercises of ancillary or pendent jurisdiction are discussed.

Forum selection; examining citizenship
Article Abstract:
Diversity jurisdiction can be difficult to determine and will not exist if the state where a corporation doing business in many states has its main place of business and will not exist if one of the corporate citizenships is the same as that of the opposing party.Business enterprises often prefer litigating in federal court, and Congress provided for multiple state corporate citizenships to decrease the number of diversity cases.
