Hispanic bar raps 'dirty dozen' - institutions without Latinos
Article Abstract:
The Hispanic National Bar Assn publishes an annual list of a 'dirty dozen' law schools which have no Latinos on their faculty despite their large Latino student population, location in states with large Latino populations and their production of a large number of law professors. Some faculty members at the 'dirty dozen' schools point out that minority hiring is high on their agenda, but that Hispanics are only one minority and inclusion on the list disregards the representation of other minorities on the faculties.

ABA annual convention mantra: give more power to institutions
Article Abstract:
One of the issues at the ABA's 1996 convention was a Mississippi State Bar Ass'n proposal on choosing the deans of law schools that critics said would have taken too much power from law school faculties and given it to university governing boards. This matter came up as part of a redoing of accreditation standards for law schools. The compromise worked out gives faculty significant authority in selecting deans but does not require schools to give them veto authority in order to be accredited.
