Indefinite detention of immigrant parolees: an unconstitutinal condition?
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court has ruled that the indefinite detention of aliens is an unconstitutional denia l of due process rights, but that immigrant parolees may be detained indefinitely because they are statutorily "on the threshhold of entry" into the US. However, this practice of making the giving up of constitutional rights a necessary condition of entry into the US is itself unconstitutional. It is also bad public policy to indefinitely detain people who have established physical, economic, and community presence in the US.

Privatization and accountability
Article Abstract:
Some adovcates of privatization of government functions think that any such program should have a strong component of public oversight to ensure accountability. The authors argue that private organizations actually have more effective means of ensuring accountability than do public agencies. Therefore, privatization does not require mechanisms to allow the government to enforce accountability.
