Article Abstract:
Ralph Nader's group set up an Internet discussion list on the Microsoft monopoly during the investigative stage of the case, a strongly anti-Microsoft discussion group with a membership made up mainly software technicians and entrepreneurs. Efficiencies in merger cases: technological 'diffusion' as the cure for short-run monopoly pricing
Article Abstract:
Mergers and industrial consolidation may create monopolies and price increases but ultimately these mergers will force prices down while introducing important economic efficiencies. In the reinvented markeplace, diffusion will force monopoly prices lower and permanently low prices eventually will result. However, critics charge that this economic theory is flawed and politically-motivated.
