Land tenure and agricultural productivity on Indian reservations
Article Abstract:
The productivity of farming on Indian reservation land is hindered by the federal government's powers of trust, as shown by a statistical analysis of data from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the 1987 Agriculture Census. Land tenure and trust authority arrangements vary among reservations, and market values of crops may not be the most important factor in policy decisions. Rather, cultural integrity may justify present policies.

Contract choice in modern agriculture: cash rent versus cropshare
Article Abstract:
A transaction cost model can be used to analyze the contract choices of farmers and landowners for modern farms. The model explains why cropshare or cash rent contracts may be chosen, and it fits the pattern of agriculture in the midwestern states. The validity of the model is illustrated by its application to data from Nebraska and South Dakota for 1986.
