iVillage faces federal suit over firing; lawyer says he was let go because he is a man
Article Abstract:
A male executive has sued iVillage Inc, a women's Internet firm, claiming to have been one in a sweep of male executives dismissed in preparation for the firm's initial public offering. The causes of action in Todd L Kenner's suit include breach of contract, and violation of a Tennessee truth-in-recruiting statute. The company's public filings indicate that a female attorney was appointed to fill Kenner's position. iVillage was started with money from America Online and claims to be the premier women's network.

Article Abstract:
The case of EEOC v. Astra USA, Inc., did not, as some attorneys had hoped, state which rights an employee who has just been dismissed can waive in a termination agreement. Thus, some attorneys are questioning whether disparagement clauses, common in most severance agreements, could hurt EEOC investigations and maybe even class actions by keeping departing employees from talking about workplace conditions. Astra executives had been accused by current and former employees of sexual harassment.
