Article Abstract:
The increase in US lawyers working abroad is discussed and practical hints for getting work abroad are given. Adaptability, the willingness to take risks and the willingness to accept the frustrations of dealing with a foreign language are key.

Lien-ing on lawyers; decision could affect contingency agreements following attorney bankruptcies

Attorney Jan Schlichtmann's lengthy litigation fighting classifying a prebankruptcy partnership debt as a lien on the individual partner's earnings after the bankruptcy discharge is discussed. Schlictmann argues that this classification keeps him from getting a fresh post-bankruptcy start.

After the firing; losing your job can be the beginning of a winning career
Article Abstract:
The article gives signs for lawyers that their termination may be imminent, cautions them to keep a grip on themselves and start their job search while still employed, to ask the firm for severance and health benefits and negotiate for services such as career counseling and outplacement. The author also cautions lawyers not to start their looking for new employment until they have dealt with their feelings and to continue talking with their family.
