Memos expose 'Project Rightsize;' Cadwalader papers are unsealed in ex-partner suit
Article Abstract:
Internal documents of New York's Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft from its Project Rightsize period of the early 1990s were provided in a suit for wrongful dismissal by James W. Beasley, Jr. The firm tried to keep the papers confidential but did not succeed. The documents were very frank and recommended dismissing attorneys who made too much but produced too little. One document argued for dismissing John F. Fritts from the firm's management committee while specifying that this dismissal was nothing personal.

Firm can fire partner who disputed bills: court: lawyer relationships trump whistleblower status
Article Abstract:
Bohatch v. Butler & Binion was a 1998 Texas Supreme Court ruling stating that a law firm could dismiss a partner for doubting another attorney's bills. The court found no guidance in the partnership agreement, which had the procedures, but not the grounds for expulsion, nor in Texas law. Thus, this breach-of-fiduciary-duty claim was one of first impression. An important issue was whether the partners' fiduciary relationship constituted an exception to the at-will nature of partnerships.

Where firms found associates: a sampler of law schools that supplied the incoming class of '96
Article Abstract:
A look at law firm personnel statistics shows that law firms hiring in 1996 did not look mainly to the law schools nearest them. About 50 large law firms are listed. After the firm's name and principal office comes the number of entering associates and the names of law schools they graduated from. If a law school supplied more than one graduate, the number taken appears in parentheses. A World Wide Web page with the URL http://www.ljx.com/nlj supplies a fuller listing.
