Puerto Rico fights death penalty; islanders clash with U.S., Pennsylvania
Article Abstract:
Puerto Rican official and citizens are protesting the a capital punishment case brought by the United States Department of Justice against two men who are accused of kidnapping and murder. Puerto Rico banned the death penalty in 1929 and it is also outlawed in its 1952 Constitution. Puerto Rico is also fighting the extradition of a defendent in what will be a capital case in Pennsylvania.
