Article Abstract:
Court rooms are not currently prepared for the digital technologies of the 21st century, but lawyers will find many of them to be useful. The use of computer presentations has shown to significantly reduce trial times and increase the effectiveness of presentations. Courtrooms may not have the required equipment, making it necessary for lawyers to provide their own digital cameras and digital video projectors. Digital cameras offer the advantage of instant photography and reproduction without the time delays involved in dealing with a photo shop. The use of USB-enabled compact flash memory cards allow images to be downloaded from the camera to a computer and saved. A $20 cable connects to most PCs for display purposes.

Quickbooks workarounds
Article Abstract:
Intuit's Quickbooks Pro 99 integrated accounting software proved hard to install for more complex user situations: those involving multiple users, network connections, or converted legacy data and company information. To avoid the company's error-prone, complex data conversion procedure, users can copy all their data files to a local hard disk Quickbooks Pro 99 program installation. After converting the data in single-user mode, users then recopy the converted files to the same directory, resetting them afterwards to multiuser mode. Networked users with legacy data will likely need to install Quickbooks Pro 99 a few times, so they should remember their customer numbers for faster service. Quickbooks Pro 99 needs a more elegant installation routine, as well as better call center support and a better users' manual.

Article Abstract:
Voice recognition software performance has improved with Dragon's Naturally Speaking 3.52 Deluxe, but the technology requires more computing power than is readily available. CPU speeds continue to climb, and there is a rising need for chipsets and memory that will allow the new technology to be fully utilized. AMD's K7 chips perform on par with Intel's Pentium III at a lower price, and the AMD K6III and Intel Celeron processors maintain an excellent cost/performance ratio. Limited application availability and complicated installation still hamper Red Hat Linux 6.0's ability to compete with Microsoft products. With a few exceptions, Windows 98 Second Edition updates seem to run smoothly an stabilize the operating system. Novell Netware 5 shows continued improvements with a faster installation and better memory protection.
