Restructuring the electrical utility industry
Article Abstract:
Deregulating the electrical utility industry will provide opportunity for ADR. Regulators, legislators, corporate leaders in monopolistic utilities, and marketers all have competing interests as the industry is restructured. ADR is particularly appropriate because it can supply to the negotiations participants who are more technologically proficient than many judges and jurors. The American Arbitration Association's dispute resolution process can provide a useful guide to resolving disputes.

ADR assists energy industry restructuring
Article Abstract:
Deregulation of the energy industry, including oil, gas, and electric power, will increase the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). In response to this trend, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) held a symposium on March 30, 1998 on improving the handling of complaints against natural gas pipelines, oil pipelines, and electric utilities. FERC will inevitably rely more on ADR to cut down on complaints and deal more efficiently with those that are filed.
