The statutory context
Article Abstract:
Whistleblowing employees received limited protection under UK law and may have a difficult time proving in unfair dismissal litigation that their disclosures of confidential information were justified. However, unfair constructive dismissal claims may be supported by proof of employer harassment or contractual breaches. The Public Interest Disclosure Bill similarly protects employees. Statutory protections are available for employees who disclose safety violations or dangerous conditions. A number of other employment laws, such as anti-discrimination statutes, may offer protection to whistleblowers.
