Small-scale case management
Article Abstract:
De Novo Systems' Trial de Novo (TDN) legal case software offers an inexpensive, yet frustrating alternative for organizing litigation information. TDN installs in network server configurations and can be used as a single-user application. The single-user program costs $395 and additional user applications are available for $149 each. TDN is easily installed and provides users with three options including adding a client, moving to an existing client and moving to the calendar view. TDN features many information screens suitable for most litigation types but is oriented towards personal injury cases. The application includes an easy-to-use merging system that enables users to export entered data to correspondence and reports. The calendar view's windows are disappointingly small and its constant scrolling requirements are cumbersome.

Case management from start to finish
Article Abstract:
Oakley Associates' $595 The Trial Lawyer's Assistant (TLA) 2.0 is an impressive case and litigation management system. TLA features billing and calendaring capabilities and is designed to assist attorneys from client intake throughout trial and appeal. TLA is organized by issue identification and support in Oakley Associates' refined and streamlined issue abstract system. This system allows relevant segments of documents to be copied and saved individually as abstracts. TLA offers one of the most comprehensive alternatives for entering and organizing disparate case data. The program provides thorough text-searching capabilities and performs full-text searches via the Zyindex search engine. Despite TLA's extensive capabilities, its installation is problematic.
