The Commonwealth changes the Administrative Procedures under the Impact of Proposals Act in response to Gunns' case
Article Abstract:
Australia altered the Environment (Impact of Proposals) Act 1974 regulations as of May 5, 1995 because of the Tasmanian Conservation Trust Inc v. Minister for Resources and Gunns Ltd case where an old environmental impact statement was used. The revision requires all proposals with a potentially significant environmental impact to be referred to the Environment Dept rather than allowing the licensing Minister to decide whether an impact statement is warranted. However, the licensing Minister still decides whether to issue the license or permit.

Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Amendment Act 1996
Article Abstract:
Australia has enacted the Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Amendment Act 1996 to update the original 1989 law to comply with changes in the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Waste and Their Disposal. The amendments change the definition of waste and revise the import and export provisions. Environmentally sound management of the waste will be required, instead of safe disposal. The amendments also expand civil and criminal penalties on corporations and executives.
