Article Abstract:
The Maastricht treaty created the three-pillared European Union (EU), with the European Community (EC) the main pillar, having four main institutions, the Council of Ministers, the Parliament, the Court of Justice and the Commission. There are ancillary bodies include the Committee of Permanent Representatives, European Investment Bank and European Monetary Institute, along with other European organizations such as the Council of Europe and the Economic Commission for Europe.
