Decertification elections: an analysis of recent activity
Article Abstract:
A study of labor union decertification activity reveals mixed results from 1979 to 1990. Decertification elections increased from prior times, both in amounts and as a ratio of National Labor Relations Board cases. However, the trend may have peaked, since all indicators have dropped after the early 1980s. Decertification arose with the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act. Unions can be open to decertification in the proper legal environment, but the extent of the continuing threat is unclear.

The cost of union-management cooperation: criminal sanctions for employer business entertainment of union officials
Article Abstract:
Employers who finance union-management cooperation should carefully monitor these expenditures, especially when criminal investigations or government oversight of locals or internationals has taken place. Employers should take various steps to avoid even the perception of violating the Taft-Hartley Act. Employers should as part of their corporation compliance program, have union-management compensation programs periodically audited by external auditors.
