The great divide: a proposal to create a section to study gay and lesbian issues brings discord to the Texas bar
Article Abstract:
The board of directors of the State Bar of Texas voted down a proposal to create a new section devoted to gay and lesbian legal issues. The Bar has 42 sections devoted to subjects such as animal rights, American Indian issues and women's issues. The board claimed that creation of the section would be divisive and that there were already too many sections. Supporters noted that popular support has never been required for the creation of sections and stated that the board's actions demonstrate the need for a section devoted to gay and lesbian issues.

Gay rights victory; Minnesota woman named guardian of her disabled lesbian lover
Article Abstract:
A Minnesota Court of Appeals decision naming Karen Thompson guardian of her disabled lover, Sharon Kowalski, has been appealed by Kowalski's former guardian, Karen Tomberlin. Kowalksi and her attorney, M. Sue Wilson, were not expecting the Jan 10, 1992 appeal, and still feel that the recent decision in their favor will stand. The appeals court ruled that a previous court ignored Kowalski's expressed wish to be with Thompson. Kowalski has sought guardianship since 1984.
