TortPro: Windows database for the P.I. attorney
Article Abstract:
Justice Software Inc's $1,500 TortPro is a decent, albeit somewhat immature, legal practice software package. TortPro is designed for the personal injury (PI) laywer, and it could be considered a PIMS for such professionals, rather than a complete expert system that guides users through PI cases. The program has a calendar function which links tasks to their due dates, as well as tracking deadlines and other events. Unfortunately, TortPro lacks many of the standard features found in Windows programs, most noticeably a help file. Also, there are no error-trapping methods; users in a network could enter the same case name twice and the program would not flag the duplication, and an automated date-entry feature could result in a missed statute of limitation.

Collections made Windows easy
Article Abstract:
Celestial Computing's $495 Easy Collection, a Windows program for simplifying the payment collection process, offers an easy way to track payments and manage a contingency fee collection practice. Easy Collection's online help is excellent and well organized. Users initially enter data on debtors and creditors, this information is then repeated whenever necessary to avoid retyping. The software will automatically calculate accrued interest, outstanding balance after payments, and allocations between principal, interest and costs. The package can generate several attractive and highly detailed reports, including a monthly summary of all transactions.
