VitalSigns Software offers quick, user-friendly "due-care" information on many life insurers
Article Abstract:
It is important for insurance advisers to have a clear projection of insurance companies' solvency and the accuracy of projections to satisfy clients who have been harmed by inaccurate projections before. Craig William Earnshaw has devised a computer program, VitalSigns, that collects ratings from the main rating agencies and compiles them on reports based on the percentage of companies with higher or lower ratings, unifying the diverse systems used. The program price of $295, $195 for renewals, includes quarterly updates and program improvements.

Update on the failure of Mutual Benefit Life provides insights into selecting an insurer
Article Abstract:
The financial problems of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co illustrate that estate planners and insurance agents should carefully read the annual report to policyholders that insurance companies issue. Errors in the management of insurance companies can lead to poor performance or failure. Mutual Benefit's report contained the officers' statement of favorable operating results, but the auditor's report revealed the speculative real estate investments of the company.

Objection to Mutual Benefit rehabilitation plan
Article Abstract:
A rehabilitation plan for the failed Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co was filed with the court in mid-1992 with a confirmation date of Jan 1993. The guarantee funds of 47 states had passed on the plan by late Oct 1992, but the New York Insurance Department has not. New York wants policyholders to be able to make penalty-free withdrawals much sooner than the plan provides for. New York policyholders will be best served if a compromise is reached.
