Bill Buckley's work producing day-in-the-life films which document life after catastrophic injuries for big damage awards is described. Buckley can even create a video settlement brochure, designed to persuade insurers and corporate policy makers to settle before trial.

DOJ tobacco suit a long shot; government using RICO and other laws in untried ways

The article cautions that the Department of Justice's suit against the tobacco industry for the expenses of treating smoking-related illnesses faces slim chances, as the laws it is based on were never intended for such use. These are the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the Medical Care Recovery Act and the Medicare Secondary Payer provisions.

A 1999 National Law Journal/Decision Quest survey provided the data, and matters discussed include probable rulings in a case involving a Y2K problem and whether a juvenile charged as an adult should be convicted. Respondents who had served on juries before were more likely to believe they could be fair.
