Web-based intranets aid document management; 'net technology bolsters firms' electronic library capabilities with ease of use and little cost
Article Abstract:
Private intranets using Internet technology enhance firms' electronic library capabilities and offer a host of other advantages at competitive cost levels. Using hyper-text markup language (HTML) and other languages and software developed for the Internet and the World Wide Web, law firms can give their electronic document management systems a hypertext front- end, or even make the intranet into the effective desktop system for attorneys. Intranets can also contain links to the Internet.

Quietly, intranets boom; in-house incarnations of the Internet are teeming in major corporations, without fanfare
Article Abstract:
Intranets, or internal variations on the Internet, are proliferating at every large US company, offering many potential benefits to internal legal departments. Though they initially grew in obscurity, intranets are now popular because they facilitate dispersing information throughout an organization and collecting information from members. Their relatively inexpensive technology permits interaction among lawyers and with those they advise, as well as law-library and file-room functions.
