Investment manager selection and evaluation
Article Abstract:
Insurance agents have to recommend investment managers because of the growth in variable life products and so need a method for evaluating them. Mutual funds hold over $3 tril of US investments and information on the funds is available through the prospectus, independent raters, financial reports and statements of additional information. Rating fund managers involves matching funds with client needs, eliminating poor managers, eliminating managers that ignore their own investment philosophy and rating performance. Managers should be constantly monitored once the selection is made.

More than a dime's worth
Article Abstract:
Attaining the CLU and ChFC designations can enable insurance agents to better market their products because they can explain the complex insurance aspects such as group concepts, estate planning and balance sheets. Those certifications, earned through the American College, give agents access to leading-edge knowledge and the potential for re-education to remain current on market issues. Therefore, it is important for alumni to support the College through donations because it sets the insurance industry standards.
