That $10 billion fee; the new tobacco deal will generate the largest fee ever - and it may grow
Article Abstract:
The $206 bil settlement of state suits against the tobacco industry will probably generate attorney fees of more than $10 bil., and some lawyers anticipate legal fees of even more since these fees are not capped. The basis of the fee agreement is an attempt by the state attorneys general to evade the contingency fee agreements negotiated with the law firms retained to sue the tobacco industry in 36 state lawsuits throughout the US. The agreement details two ways lawyers can claim fees from the tobacco industry, negotiation directly with the industry or arbitration.
