A new agenda for a new era
Article Abstract:
Channel 4's (C4) Chief Executive Michael Jackson is planning to takeover from his predecessors Michael Grade and Jeremy Issacs. Steve Morrison suggests that Jackson should ensure that C4 continue to offer alternative programming from the other UK terrestrial television stations. Linda James and Brent Harman feel that Jackson should aim towards privatization whilst Dawn Airey and Jenny Barraclough are against the privatization of C4. Both Roger Laughton and Barry Cox advise Jackson to initially establish his personal vision for C4.

The Wright stuff?
Article Abstract:
Considerable progress is being made towards resolving the cultural problems associated with popular drama, according to BBC head of drama series Jo Wright. She believes that more populist attitudes are now emerging at the BBC and that she has established a team with considerable talent for popular drama. However, no new successful drama series have emerged, and some observers believe that Wright is not acting with sufficient urgency. They feel that there is a great need for new series to overcome a lack of depth in popular drama.
