From underground to alternative: peace signs and dollar signs
Article Abstract:
The underground press was quite actively involved with the peace and protest movements of 1968. By 1973, underground journalism was involved more with mundane matters such as the muckracking of a planned Winter Olympiad. It also changed its name to the alternative press syndicate. Underground journalism in 1998 has receded and few of its papers survive. A community-based alternative press has taken its place and alternative chains have become an industry.
