Tim Gardam, program director of Channel 4 (C4) explains his stand against privatization of public television, citing C4's strong schedule, risky content and sense of originality. The downturn in television advertising has affected the station's ability to commission programming, however, Gardam remains optimistic about the station's current developments and future plans.

Channel 4's E4 digital entertainment television channel has increased its young adult viewer market share by twofold. However, the channel's continued growth could be hurt by Channel 4's inability to produce mainstream entertainment hits. E4 could even start to break away from Channel 4 as it continues to grow.
