B92 of Belgrade: free voices on the airwaves and the Internet
Article Abstract:
Radio B92, the first and for a long time the only independent radio station in Serbia, began in 1989 as a local radio station in Belgrade with a very restricted audience of the urban young to middle aged. However, it soon became very influential, especially in promoting economic reform, democracy and respect for ethnic minorities. Its commitment to use all media to disseminate its opinions prompted it to set up an Internet site, although it encountered significant obstacles in doing so. OpenNet, the Radio B92 Internet centre, was shut down when Radio B92 was taken over by regime loyalists in Apr 1999.

The role of the media in exposing crimes against humanity: Lessons learned in South Africa, Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia
Article Abstract:
Judge Richard Goldstone believes prosecutors have to face the problem of the reluctance and sometimes refusal of journalists to give evidence themselves. He supports the media reluctance and feels that their first priority is to protect the media existence and its own efficiency. He sees the media as an integral part of every human rights movement, and as a profession most in need of protection.
