The British government is considering Japan as having the greatest potential to export British TV, radio and satellite programming. Aside from the British Broadcasting Corp., SkyPerfect TV is the only other digital satellite broadcast service operating in the country after it announced that it will absorb all subscribers of DirecTV. Nine other digital broadcasters will launch in December.

A sporting chance

Sports organizers must weigh the advantages and disadvantages in deciding whether to air events on free-to air television or choose pay-tv services such as cable and satellite. Most major sponsors prefer free-to-air television to reach the widest audience as opposed to subscription television which only reaches a committed audience.
